i have a subaru impreza wagon. i don't have an answer to your question, though, because i'm fairly short (5'4"), so our answer was to put the convertible RF behind the driver's seat (it's my car) and when we went out as a family i'd drive. i was able to fit just fine with our RF Evenflo Triumph behind me - but you really could not have scooted the drivers seat any further back. DH's legs would've been squished if it had been behind the passenger seat.

i do know that if it's not going to fit behind the passenger seat without squishing the legs of the front passenger, it won't work in the middle - at least, we tried that with our Evenflo Triumph and all it did was make *both* driver and passenger seats unable to push back past a certain point.
