Motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of death and acquired disability to U.S. children, despite safer vehicles, safer roads, and more children than ever before traveling in age-appropriate child occupant restraint systems. In 2006, an average of five children 14 years and younger were killed, and 568 children were injured in motor vehicle crashes each day.
