The only combination seat that harnesses past 40# is the Cosco Apex: it's rather flimsy comapred to Britax, though + its top slots are about the same as the Marathon/Wizard.... To keep kiddo harnessed longer, I would look into the Regent or contact customer service at Safety in Motion - E-Z-ON Products, Inc. of Florida about using their Kid-Y harness with a dedicated booster that you can use once the harness is outgrown (IME the Compass B510 would probably be the easiest to use the Kid-Y & Compass performs side impact crash testing, too).

FF seats are generally outgrown when the top of the shoulders are slightly above the top harness slot. Sometimes the cover gets in the way & gives the false appearance that there's more room than there really is, so use your finger to find where the hard shell/frame is in comparison to your child's shoulders).

Another option might be the Sunshine Kids Radian. You'd have enough time for kiddo's torso to grow just one more inch compared to the Marathon/Wizard. The Regent usually fits kids till about 8-10 years old. Sometimes kids don't need a booster after the Regent (at least not legally) but most do, IME (as per the laws of physics). With the new Regent installation instructions, I can't say whether the Regent or Radian would be easier to install -- except that both seem relatively easy so long as the vehicle has reclinable seatbacks (recline vehicle seatback, install carseat, bring vehicle seatback upright again: makes for a pretty easy & very secure fit).

The best carseat fits the child, fits the vehicle & is always used correctly....
Get your seat checked.
