Default covertible Booster for tall 2.9 yr old in Hyundai Santa Fe

our 2.9 yr old son who is 40 inches and 37 lbs has outgrown his Britax Roundabout and we are looking now for a carseat that utlizes a harness for much longer than 40 lbs but will also than turn into a booster when needed. (He is not ready for a booster now).

We bought a Saftey 1st Apex but cant seem to get it snugly into the car - it moves around. Any suggestions on how to fit this better or recommendations on a different seat to buy?

The Graco Nautilus & Britax Frontier are the only other extended (high weight) harness/booster combination seats that I am aware of. I've heard very good things about them, but have not seen them in person yet.

Default fit better

not sure if this helps but try it--I've seen other posts telling people to actually sit in the car seat/booster seat and have someone else tighten the straps--The reason given is that car seats need about 300lbs of force down on them to adequately tighten the straps... ?? I don't know if that part is true but it worked for us. The seat initially flopped around but my husband sat in it and my dad pulled on the straps and now it never moves.

Not true. I weigh only 100 pounds & have a chronic illness. I always install my seats without help. It's about leverage -- just 1 arms' worth of pressure onto the seat while the other arm tugs should be adequate -- it usually helps me to pull toward the opposite side the carseat rather than up or out.... The Apex in particular often merely appears to wiggle around too much because it has thin "feet" under its base instead of the sturdier bottoms of most seats (this is probably related to the requirement of a high vehicle seat back, too).

Hi Sam,
Weird..just read your post and we have the same issue. my 3 year old daughter is VERY tall for her age AND we have a hyundai santa fe. i want her to use harness for as long as possible (with LATCH, if possible). I too have found the Graco Nautilus 3 in 1 (harness up to 65 lbs., LATCH up to 48 lbs.) and Britax Frontier (harness up to 80?, latch up to?). I think I'm going with the GRACO.

GOOD LUCK!

Maura
