Question Could my 5 year old infant seat be safe?

We purchased a Grace Snugride infant seat 5 years ago when we adopted our first child, Cassie, from Vietnam. It has been used for a total of 3 children over that 5 years, until each child was 20 pounds.

Is this car seat still safe to use if it has not been in an accident?

Or, do carseast get "old"?

Thanks!
Shannon

Yes carseats do get old and expire. The snugride expires 6 years from the date of manufacture (DOM). You need to go by the DOM not from when you actually bought it. You would have to check the seat (likely underneigh or on the back) for a sticker to see when it was actually manufactured. It will even be stamped right in the plastic (under the foot part of the seat) saying "do not use after (this date)".
