Question 2007 Ford Edge

I have a 2007 Ford Edge and there isnt anywhere to find out which seat is best for it. I have a 21lb, 22 month old and a 14lb, 4 month old. I have no idea what seats to get for them. I am trying to find the narrowest seats without compromising on safety so I can have another passenger fit in the middle if I have to. I figure I am going to go ahead and get 2 convertible seats. One rear facing, of course and the other forward facing. I am so lost in the carseat world, LOL. Anyone have any suggestions ???

I've only played with this vehicle inside the showroom & the dealership really got on my nerves -- they refused to let me read a copy of the manual....

What I can say about the Edge is that I really like how the rear center armrest locks in the "up" position: safer for rear facing infants However, I could not find any nonmoving part under the front seats for tethering rear-facing seats -- only Britax, Recaro & Sunshine Kids allow this anyway....

Since the seats have a flat bench look with recessed buckles, my educated guess is that it will be relatively easy to install most carseats So, I strongly urge you to keep both kids rear-facing (my website has detailed information on that).

What is your budget?
Do you need to fit a 3rd backseat passenger?

My favorite convertible seats include the Britax Marathon/Boulevard/Decathalon, Recaro Signo/Como & Sunshine Kids Radian. I also really like the Safety 1st Uptown. This is just a small sample of what's available & every seat is different, so I suggest testing kids in the seats & testing the seats in the vehicle if possible.

WOW! I was REALLY educated about the whole rear facing longer then 1 year. I had NO IDEA!!! Your site is very informative and eye opening!

I do want a 3rd passenger if i need to but not all the time.

I dont want to go out and spend $500 on 2 car seats, seems kind of silly to me. I do want good seats that are not too entirely wide and bulky. i would like to spend no more than $300 for both. Maybe wishful thinking, but who knows.

I am going to go out right now and turn my 22 month olds seat around, even though she probably wont like it. Better safe than sorry.

You're not alone, so don't let yourself feel bad Here is a desription of how I inspired my preschooler to enjoy RF longer.... Parental attitude can help kiddo a lot, too, so smile a lot & give some expressive/dramatic OooohsAaaahs about how nice it will be for her to see out the back + prop her feet up + lay back for sleeping & promise to add her to the Extended RF album (link in my signature)

If you find no information in the Edge's manual regarding a front seat top tether anchor, then I can only assume there is no where to tether a RF seat & in that case I probably wouldn't bother with the more expensive options either since the biggest feature I like about them is that they can tether RF (assuming there's an acceptable location in the vehicle).

Those expensive Britax & Recaro seats can often save $ in the long run, though since they have the highest top harness slots + high weight limits so kids are more often truly mature enough for a booster when the harness is outgrown -- compared to most convertibles which kids too often outgrow before they're capable of using a booster/seatbelt correctly (therefore parents should ideally find a harness seat with higher limits before graduating kiddo to a booster). I'd say that saving $ with these convertibles is more likely when bought just as a child outgrows an infant seat, plus you can adapt my technique from the link above to teach older kids about proper booster use (the Edge has locking retractor seatbelts to act as an added reminder for boostered kids, too, but it's still ideal to keep kids harnessed for as long as possible).

The Fisher Price Safe Voyage Deluxe is based on the Britax Marathon, but lacks RF tetherability + built in lockoffs (which should not be necessary in the Edge anyway). It's less expensive than the Sunshine Kids Radian & the Radian is less expensive than Britax (it's also the narrowest option, but usually has more installation difficulties). The least expensive of my favorites is the Safety 1st Uptown -- highest RF limits, energy absorbing foam, comfy padding, lightweight, easy to use, but minimal FF limits & no RF tethering.... Evenflo is revamping their Triumph to be quite similar to the Uptown as far as sizing, but it has fun adjustments (should be available this summer sometime).

Unhappy

OK, I have narrowed my choices down to the Fisher Price Safe Voyage Deluxe and the Graco Comfort Sport. I really want the Fisher Price one but do not know where to go locally to get one. You didnt say anything about the Graco one, but I have seen other people talking about it and have done some research of it on my own. I need some more help...... what do i do???? My head is ringing with confusion. I like the Fisher Price one too since it has higher weight limits. I do see too though that usually kids are growing out of the height limits on seats before weight. I dont think my lil girl will make the weight limit anytime soon. HELP!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Most kids do outgrow every carseat by height before weight -- the FPSVD offers more room in height as well as weight compared to the Comfortsport.... The Upto
