Default convertible car seat in small sedan (RF)

We're going to need 2 convertible car seats for an 05 Toyota Corolla and a 98 Ford Escort. Both car seats will be in the RF position. Will the Britax Marathon fit? I'd like to have it installed in the center of my Corolla, but that won't work in the Escort because it doesn't have a shoulder belt or LATCH in the middle. Also, does the Marathon have a 6 or 8 year ED?

What are some other seats that would work well in the RF position for a smaller car?

(DD rides in both cars quite frequently)

Great that you're getting 2 carseats to keep in your cars

Britax seats = 6 year lifespan before expiration.

Ford often allows the inner outboard LATCH anchors for a center installation if the carseat manufacturer OKs it & Britax generally does (check your vehicle manual on that). Otherwise, shoulder belt is not at all necessary for installing the majority of harness carseats, usually only required for boosters. Lap only belts are often the easiest kind for installation

IME, the Marathon installs nicely in all backseat positions of both of these vehicles ... but this may depend on how tall the adults are up front?

So my next question is, what do you think of the Graco Comfortsport? I've seen both good and bad reviews. I've read that it's hard to adjust the straps. I like the look of the seat, and it's cheap (which is good since we're going to need 2 of them). I don't think the height and weight limits on the Marathon will do us any good, so I'd rather not waste money.

The limits of the Marathon are definitely worth it unless you plan to purchase a Regent or Safeguard Childseat (or something like these) later -- the longer kids can stay harnessed the safer they are.... Being able to tether RF also increases safety (only Britax, Recaro & Sunshine Kids allow this).

If you cannot afford Britax and/or cannot achieve proper install with a Radian65, I would suggest the Fisher Price Safe Safe Voyage Deluxe as it is based on the Marathon, but without RF tetherability or lockoffs. Or the Safety 1st Uptown or the *new* Evenflo Triumph (with 35# RF limit + taller shell/frame than the current/old model).

The Comfort sport is outgrown sooner than any of these seats mentioned which means kiddo would need a booster sooner (a decrease in safety) or you'd have to spend a lot more $ for a seat with higher limits if kiddo is not yet ready by then to use a booster correctly.

Is the Boulevard the same size as the Marathon, or is it a lot bulkier? I like that it has side impact protection.

Same size To be fair, every correctly used 5 point harness is quite safe in side impacts, especially those with energy absorbing foam -- all Britax seats have that.... Both seats meet all applicable US safety standards & the Britax rep told me that they also meet the European side impact crash testing: the Boulevard scored slightly better so that's why they advertize it as True Side Impact Protection, but the Marathon is still very safe Even the most expensive seat with the most safety features would serve useless in a crash if it's misused, while the cheapest seat with the least features would keep kiddo safe if properly used I personally chose the Boulevard for the TSIP + I really liked that one handed harnes height knob adjuster, but the safety difference between TSIP or nonTSIP is marginal, so I just want to stress that correct use is the most important factor!
