Default Best pick for Ford Taurus...Britax Regent or Radian 80?

Hello,

My infant daughter has outgrown her Graco SnugRide and will be moving into my 4 year old daughter's Britax Roundabout (rear facing). Now my older daughter needs a new "big girl seat." She is 40" and 38 pounds. Booster seats are absolutely NOT an option for us. I have been doing tons of reasearch and the two obvious choices seem to be the Britax Regent and Sunshine Kids Radian 80. I have been very pleased with our Britax Roundabout. It installs like a dream and since I don't want to keep upgrading seats the Regent seems like a no brainer.

The big question is: Will it fit in my car???? Everyone I have spoken to seems to have different measurements for this youth seat. I drive a 2001 Ford Taurus sedan. I am concerned about the seat blocking my rear window visibility. Also, while not as big of an issue for me I am still curious, will the front of the Regent extend past the rear seat? I expect it will given that it is a large seat.

I have also read good things about the Radian 80. Again, will it fit in my car without blocking rear window visibility? Width wise it definitely seems less cumbersome than the Regent. I understand the actual sitting area of the seat is smaller than the Regent which I don't see as a problem for my daughter.

If there is a better seat out there that I have overlooked please let me know. Also, I have heard the upsides to both the Regent and Radian 80...any downsides?

I need to make my purchase ASAP so any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for your time. Have a great weekend

Radian has lower top harness slots than Regent. Regent is more comfortable by width as well. The Radian's harness slots tend to make the straps rub against the child's neck. Radian can be used for travel, Regent cannot. Regent usually installs in more vehicle types correctly/easily. You will only be able to fit thin passengers with a Roundabout + Regent in the vehicle. I prefer the Regent as do my kids. I use the Apex as a spare for travel. Almost any seat can hinder visibility -- correct use of mirrors helps (this should not be the main deciding factor).

Default Thank you ...

I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my post

The measurements section of this website lists the Britax Regent as being 28.5 inches. Britax customer service told me 30" and other stores have said 28 inches. I suppose if I was used to driving around in a van I would be used to having diminished rear window visibility but I don't and with the Roundabout I have never encountered it being a problem since it is shorter than my rear seat. I agree 100% that this is should not be the deciding factor in selecting the seat. More than anything I wanted to get a handle on whether or not I could get a good fit in my Taurus.

Thank you for the info on the Radian. You mentioned some definite concerns so I don't think I need to experiment.

The tricky part with either of these seats is they have to be mail ordered so I want to make the right decision.

I noticed another post about the new Recaro's ...nice seat...unfortunately not available right now...can't wait a minute more...sooooooo...
I have decided to go with the Regent. I will definitely keep the Apex in mind for travelling. Thanks for the tip
