I'm new at car seat stuff, but I would have to say no, they're not OK to use.

I say that because in the pictures on the site that show the cover in use, the cover that is provided by the manufacturer is shown underneath the wool cover. My understanding is that this is bad because it can cause the straps to be too loose on the child. Anything that comes between the child and the seat and especially things that can affect the snugness of the straps (as a 1" thick supplemental cover would) should not b used. It's kind of similar to why you shouldn't put a child in a thick winter coat in the car seat. The fabric will compress in a crash leaving the straps too loose.

I hope I worded that clearly. My vote is no on the wool seat cover.

No.

It interferes with correct harness use. The harness must not be pinched/puckered. It must be flat to properly spread the crash forces out across a broader area of the body, thus reducing risk of injury (think about stepping on many nails vs. only 1). The harness must also be snug enough that you cannot pinch a horizontal crease at the collar bone.

Products like this make correct use very difficult. They also increase the risk of back injuries. There should be nothing more than regular clothing between a child's back & the carseat shell (the plastic frame). If this extremely thick item has an unnoticed wrinkle, it could possibly paralyze the child.

A thin fleece snow suit + "shower cap" style cover is the best way to go
