| My son turns 2 in October and is tall and skinny (lucky him!) He is 37" tall (long torso) and only 25 lbs. We currently have an Evenflo Triumph which is his main seat and still fits (Ford Freestyle) and a Graco ComfortSport (Honda Accord) which is getting to be too small height wise. I need to replace the Graco (which we just bought in May UGH!!) because he is getting too tall for it. He is forward facing. Any suggestions as to what to do? I'm afraid if I get another convertible carseat that he will outgrown it sooner than later. I would like to get a seat that will last us a few years or at least to the point he is ready for a booster. I just went to a carseat check and the policeman suggested one of those combo seats, but I don't feel like they have enough protection for him. And besides, is there a weight/age minimum for those combo seats (Graco Cargo/Evenflo Generations...etc). Sorry for the stream of thoughts, but I've spent hourssss looking at websites and am still confused. Budget: I don't mind spending alot of money on a seat if it will last years. Any help would be appreciated ![]() Thank you! |

| Ideally, kiddo should still be rear-facing because he is 5 pounds away from the lowest RF weight limit ... assuming there is about 1" between the top of his head & the edge of the shell/frame (my wesite explains in greater detail why it is so important to keep kids RF for as long as possible). The Comfort Sport & Evenflo Triumph* are the 2 seats that kids outgrow the soonest. Most combination seats also don't keep kids harnessed as long as many convertible seats + most combination seats pale in comparison to more dedicated boosters (when not using the harness: correct harnesses use is safer than booster). I would consider the Recaro Como because it has the highest RF & FF limits of any convertible (or combination harness) seat. Another option with a lower pricetag is the Sunshine Kids Radian: save towards a dedicated booster afterwards & have a CPST check your install If you need to save $ the Cosco Apex might also be a good choice, but it's a very wide seat -- my daughter was swallowed up by it at 4 years old (also thin & tall) + it does require vehicle head support at least up to eye level. Recaro has another good FF only option, the Young Sport (mere 40# harness limit but with higher top harness slots than any of the other seats you mentioned as well as awesome side impact protection for booster use) but it's expensive.Compare the measurements of these seats & play with them at a Babies-R-Us or Buy Buy Baby, if possible, maybe letting kiddo make the final decision based on comfort once you know which ones you'll use correctly the easiest ![]() * the new Evenflo Triumph Advance fits much longer than the older version

| If kiddo will not be reverted back to RF, then the Regent should be a good choice, although I'm not sure how the new install recommendations work with your vehicle. Also, it's at least as wide as the Apex, but much heavier & not intended for travel purposes (we use the Husky/Regent as our primary seat with the Apex as a spare)

| Hmmm, can you explain how the harness was not snug? The floor model may be faulty -- from frequent testing which may have led to the strap being improperly routed, etc.... or a lot of parents have misconceptions about snugness: it's fine if the harness rests away from the belly, so long as it's snug at the hips/thigs & collar bone such that you cannot pinch a horizontal crease.

| It could have been the floor model, but I couldn't pull the straps tight enough. They were loose on his hips and I could pinch a crease at the shoulders. I didn't get a chance to really mess with it because my son wanted out as soon as I strapped him in. I'm hoping the Radian 65 works out because I'm planning on rear facing him again. |
