Question Best fit for 97 Subaru Legacy wagon

My question is pretty specific to covertible and booster-style seats, so I'm posting here since it crosses forum topics.

First, some background: My car is a 97 Subaru Legacy wagon. No side airbags in back; full seat belts (lap/should combo) only on sides, not in center in back. No tether/latch.

DD is 4-1/2 yo, nearly 41-1/2 inches and about 38-39 lbs. She is in a Britax Roundabout now and just about too tall for it. This carseat fits only on the sides; not in center.

More background that could be relevant: Former Roundabout fit in center (lap-belt only). (It was in center with child in it when our vehicle was involved in a very low-speed fender bender ...) Replacement Roundabout (new) then fit only on sides. Car seat is ALWAYS installed with assistance from CPS technician because this seat has not been this best for this make/model vehicle. This had her perplexed because she had helped install first Roundabout.

Back to question: I am looking at a full-5-pt harness seat that would install forward-facing in center of this vehicle. My choices include Sunshine Kids Radian 65, Sunshine Kids Radian 80, Recaro Young Sport Booster Car Seat. I'm looking for experience and technical advice given the child and vehicle specifics.

I'm also looking at a purchasing a second to have in my emergency contact's car, which is a new van that has side airbags in back where DD rides. The seats there are bucket. For this vehicle, I was looking at either the Britax Monach Belt-Positioning Booster, the Britax Parkway, the Recaro Vivo Lite or the Graco Turbo Booster Safe Seat (high back). Any experience/advice here? Child is infrequently in this vehicle and if we had a long-trip in it, I'd use the 5-pt harness seat.

I would again get techician assistance on (all) installation (s). In fact, the technician has helped me narrow some choices based on my vehicle. But now I'm stumped because I'd really like to move DD back to center of Subaru and want to know the seat will fit. Local stores do not have (all) the models for testing. Hoping for some input. Thank you!

Have you had the top tether anchors retrofitted in your vehicle yet? If not, I can give you the number that the Subaru dealer needs to order the retrofit kits. Having a seat top tethered is highly recommended (whether it's installed with a seatbelt or LATCH lower anchors).

The Radian 65 and the Radian 80 are the same seat, just with different weight limits. The top slots of the harnesses on both Radians is *about* 17.5inches. Since most kids outgrow seats by height before weight, sometimes it's hard to justify the extra $$ for the 80 (unless you just gotta have the princess print or something ).

The Recaro Young Sport only harnesses to 40 pounds, then it is used as a belt positioning booster. This seat is not a good option if you're wanting to keep her in the 5pt harness. I would definitely scratch that option.

As for experience installing any set in a Legacy, I have none .

Some other extended harnessing options that you may want to consider are:
SEAT, Approx. top slot height, harnessed wt. limit
-Britax Regent, 20”, 80#
-Recaro Como, ?”, 70#
-Recaro Signo, 17.75”, 70#
-Radian, 17.5-18”, 65# or 80#
-Apex/Biltmore (Cosco/Safety 1st)
Harness to 65#, then becomes bpb but you need a headrest in vehicle, 17.5",65#
-Britax Marathon/Boulevard/Decathlon, 17-17.5” , 65#
-Fisher Price Safe Voyage Deluxe 17.5”, 55#
-Evenflo Triumph Advance (not the old short one),17", 50#
-Safeguard Child Seat, 19”,65#
-Compass True Fit, ?, 65#
