Default Bought a Britax, but need help!

Okay, I bought the Britax Decathlon (I really liked the BV but was afraid my DS wouldn't like having his peripheral vision blocked). So the problem is that the harness doesn't seem to fit my son correctly. It has the crotch adjustment, but I don't see how helpful it would be. Can this be lengthened? It's currently on the middle one and the problem is that it doesn't seem long enough and the straps go around his thighs instead of his hips. Also, I'm curious how tight the straps should be. I feel like they should be as snug as possible, but then he cries (screams actually). Is it okay to have a little bit of slack? When it's tight, the straps dig into his neck (it's difficult to keep the fabric pieces in place up there). Also, when I buckle him in it often doesn't make a click noise. I check to make sure it's latched and it is...just curious if this is normal or not. Well, I think that's all of my questions. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong and I did read the manual. I'm not sure why the harness on the Graco Snugride fit so much better and didn't twist on me either. Maybe my Britax expectations were too high or maybe I don't have it properly adjusted. I'm really hoping it's the 2nd reason.

The straps on a Britax DO fit low, across the upper thighs instead of over the hips. That's fine. It will hold a child down in the seat better, IMO.

The length of the crotch strap has been a problem for some people, not for others. It is pretty short. All the Britax seats have a pretty short crotch strap. It's the crotch depth that's adjustable, not the length of the strap.

On some kids (especially skinnier kids) the straps will seem loose or like there is space especially at the chest area. If the straps are tight across the thighs and at the shoulders then it's fine.

With the buckle, the first side will not make an audible click. Only when you insert the second side will it make noise.

HTH!
