Disposing of Old Carseats

I have two Graco snugrides that are almost at their age limit for use. We've moved the baby to a Marathon and have no use for the infant seats anymore. Since it wouldn't be safe to pass them down what's the best way to dispose of them?

You can either contact a carseat tech in your area and see if they need them for educational purposes (which if you lived in MN, I would HAPPILY take them off your hands...I need infant carriers!). OR you can cut the straps and in permanent market, write on the seat, damaged seat or something, then either bash with a sledge hammer or hand them to your garbage people and ask them to compress it while you watch...this way you KNOW they are destroyed

Thanks for the suggestions, I hadn't thought about asking a local carseat tech if they needed them. I will look into that.
