Default Chest clip that child can't undo

Help!!!! My 46 month old daughter is only 33 pounds and will likely need to be in a carseat for another year or two.

Our problem is that she keeps undoing the chest clip, so she can move more when I am driving. I pull over right away if I can, but there are lots of highways around where it is not safe to just stop. She can undo the bottom clip.

Any one have any suggestions for a carseat where she can't undo the chest clip or some way to stop her.

What kind of seat is she currently in? There are seats with chest clips that are harder to open but I think just teaching her not to undo it would be the best. I would try telling her it isn't safe to undo it and in an accident she could get hurt and that would make you very sad. I know when my 30 month old doesn't want to sit in his seat and I tell him that, it bothers him and he is then willing to sit in his seat again.

Your child will need a safety seat until at least 4'9" so you're not even close to being out of the water yet

At this age, education & behavior modification can have excellent results!

There is no "child proof" carseat, but some may be more difficult for some kids -- this may or may not be the answer, though since some kids just LOVE a challenge, LOL

What carseat do you have now? Vehicle year, make, model? How much time and/or $ are you willing/able to put into this

Visiting your local CPST for an added amount of pressure for kiddo not to unbuckle herself can be very helpful (especially, it seems, with those in uniform & at a fire station: it's just such a unique, interesting, exciting experience for kids ) or I've had fabulous luck having my DD help me uninstall the seat, clean it, read the manual & name all the parts, then role play dramatic crash scenarios on the living floor (& in the yard)

In the end, following through with consequences EVERYTIME is crucial as is expressing the need for safety from the perspective that it's all about your LOVE for her

The best carseat fits the child, fits the vehicle & is always used correctly....
Get your seat checked.
