Default Where to put carseat in 2006 Honda CRV

We bought a 2006 Honda CRV partly because they told us we could put the carseat in the middle of the backseat. When we went to the Fire Station to have it checked, they told us that we couldn't have it there if we wanted to use the LATCH system. Is this true?

You can always use the seatbelt in the middle. A seatbelt installation is just as safe as a LATCH installations, it is just LATCH is supposed to make it easier to install which isn't always the case.

I know a lot of vehicles don't allow you to use the LATCH anchors from the outboard seat for the middle. I am thinking the older Honda CRV's didn't allow it but I think I heard the newer CRV's do now allow it. To be safe, read your CRV's manual, it will tell you if it is allowed or not.

There are several different LATCH setups in vehicles today. Some allow you to use the middle with LATCH and others do not. Like Jewels said, check your manual. It will usually say that you cant use the middle. What does your set of anchors look like?

o____o________o____o - first opt.

o_____o______o_____o - second option

o____oo_____oo____o - third option

with the first opt. you can not use latch to install in the center position, because there is too much space between the two center anchors. with the second opt. the manual usually says that it is okay (but double check)...and with the third, the center has its own dedicated latch anchors, so it is okay

It always depends on the manual -- if the vehicle manual does not give specific directions on installing a seat in the center with LATCH, then we must asume (until we are told otherwise) that it is not acceptable.... Some manuals may say that it depends on the carseat manufacturer: just call their toll free number for clarification.
