| Hay all I am looking for information on statandards and infant car seats: 1. which standard is more demanding and strict, the USA FMVSS 213 or the European ECE R44.03/.04 ? 2. How did different car seats stand up in standard test. 3 I am looking for comparison between car seats in a crash test. thanks kuller |

| Neither is "better" -- each depends on the needs where they exist.... The *best* carseat is whichever seat fits the child, fits the vehicle & is always used correctly Just remember to read & follow both the vehicle + carseat manuals!US doesn't have public data to compare how much better a particular seat crash tests than another. However data shows that seats with energy absorbing foam can reduce risk of injury. NHTSA does have their infant seat crash test videos on their website & my personal preference based on that are seats with antirebound (bar or tether). The Britax Companion is the only infant seat with antirebound, but I think either the Combi or Chicco (?) infant seat also seems to have performed very well based on observing the videos. Also, those manufacturers who make seats that must conform to US + European standards might be safer: Britax, Recaro & Compass boosters (for big kids) meet all FMVSS here as well as the European side impact standards.
