Default Roundabout vs. Marathon for 99 Honda Civic

Hello,
We currently have a Graco Snugride for our 10 month old daughter and are trying to decide what would be best between the Roundabout or Marathon. I have done the research and think these have tested the best, however I don't have the latch system in our Civic so I am not sure the Roundabout would work..is this true? When I typed in the information for my car on this site, the Marathon came up for using the seat belt only. Also, what does seat belt with tethers mean?

Thanks so much in advance for any assistance.
Jenny

Helly Jenny,

Either seat should work in your Civic without LATCH - both can be installed with seat belts safely. Since your daughter is only 10 months old, you should be intending on using either of these seats rear-facing for a while, the Marathon as it is larger and takes up more space in the back seat rear-facing so may be a concern if installed in an outboard position (driver or passenger side) if the seat in front requires a lot of leg room for a passenger. Some folks mentioned this as an issue and some didn't: Search: CarSeatData.org - user ratings of carseats fitting into cars. Seat belt with tethers means using the seat belts for installation along with the top tether. Britax is one of few manufacturers that allow for a tether to be used in the rear-facing position with installation. It's not necessary but highly recommended as you get a really solid install with the tether in my experience. You can see how it's done in their instructions on page 14:. Both the Roundabout and Marathon will allow for this type of installation.
Ultimately, I would go with the Marathon over the Roundabout because you will be able to keep your daughter in a 5-point harness longer which is the safest option.

Hope that helps!
