Hi. I am trying to find a car seat for my 3 year daughter. I already bought and returned the Regent. Several issues with it for me. My car does not have latch - the Regent requires the top tether at 40 lbs. Secondly, the seat belt was too short to route the way they tell you too (which is pretty common I've heard)...so sadly, I had to send it back. My child is 39" tall and 37 lbs. The only other seats I've seen that might work is the Radian 80 or the Safeseat maybe the Recaro but I just don't know much about that one.... Any info would be so greatly appreciated! I have got to get a new car seat SOON! Thanks, Jennifer ![]()

There are some great new choices out there if the Regent isn't working for you. One is the new Britax Frontier which has a 5-point harness that goes up to 80 lbs. and 53" and can then be used as a high-back booster to 100 lbs. and 60". My one concern was that if you were having issues installing the Regent, you may find the same with the Frontier as there have been issues with the belt path installation. Like the Regent, however, a top tether is required for use from 65 - 80 lbs. Since your vehicle doesn't have LATCH I wanted to let you know that you can contact your local car dealer the car manufacturer to see if a tether kit specific to your vehicle is available. Some dealers will even install the tether anchor kit for free. Just an option I thought I'd throw out there since tethering a seat really does help in minimizing the amount of forward head movement in the event of a collision. The other is the Graco Nautilus with a 5-point harness for use up to 65 lbs. and 52" and then as a booster up to 100 lbs. and 57". You should have no issues installing this seat, as a tether is not required for use, but you won't be able to use the 5-point harness as long as you may want to. Your other choice you already mentioned is the Sunshine Kids Radian 80 which will keep your daughter in a harness up to 80 lbs. and 53" but then you may have to spring for a booster seat once she's grown out of this which you more than likely won't need to do with the Graco Nautilus or Britax Frontier. Another point I thought I would mention is the shoulder strap heights - the Britax Frontier allows for the most growing room in terms of height with the highest shoulder harness position measuring 18.25" from the seat. The Sunshine Kids Radian 80 measures at 18" and the Graco Nautilus at 17.5". Those would be my top recommendations for you. The SafeSeat you mentioned (I believe you meant the Safe Seat Step 2 from Graco) will not work for very long as it only goes up to 40 lbs. in the harness and cannot be used as a booster. RECARO has some nice options but don't have the higher harness weight capacities of the ones I recommended. Let me know if you have any other questions! Thanks! Kelly

Thanks Kelly for the info. I did try and calling my local BMW dealer and you would think for such expensive cars they would try to sound intelligent. The guy was clueless and told me to look at my owner's manual - which I did. I know there are spots for the top tether in my car but finding someone to install it and it not cost $$$ may be another story. Anyway, I'm tempted to try the Frontier but still scared of the belt path issues and will still need to get the top tether. I think at this point the Radian 80 may be the best choice or the lesser of the evils. Thanks again! Jennifer

Hi Jennifer! If there is difficulty with assembly of the top tether, we always recommend visiting your local fire department or police station. I am pretty sure they do it for free and more than likely they will have a CPS tech there that can help you out.
