| The customer service rep at Subaru was most likely not safety technician -- if the vehicle manual shows/explains center carseat installation with seatbelt (it does) then you can do just that assuming it gives a secure fit with less than 1" movement at the belt path: if not, then you would need to install outboard, but if you still cannot achieve a secure install then you should visit your local CPST ![]()
