Cool Bummed because Marathon doesn't fit

Hi, all!

I am really bummed because we just got a new car (2007 Subarau Impreza Wagon) and the Marathon is too high; I can't see out the back. So I was wondering what my options are. Would it help if I moved it RF to the passenger side or should I just get a Roundabout? Is that just as good? Is there anyone else out there with an Impreza wagon that is able to make it fit? Or maybe I should just trade in the car?

Any tips/advice are appreciated.

Thanks!

Linda

Mirrors are a wonderful thing The new Defensive Driving trick is to position your side mirrors such that you can just see the bumper while leaning over to touch your forehead on the window (driver side) & leaning over to the middle of the vehicle (for passenger side mirror) -- this helps reduce exterior your blind spots

What is your child's age, weight, height?
Where do you currently have the carseat installed?
Rear facing or Forward facing?
LATCH or seatbelt?

The Marathon is generally a wiser choice for the cost because it will keep kiddo harnessed longer, which is safer: this is especially true for kids of tall parents and/or kids with long torso.... I've known many people who've successfully used the Marathon in their Imprezas so I'm sure we can figure this out

Well, my baby hasn't been born yet. I received the car seat as a shower gift. I have an infant car seat I will use up until the time she is ready to be switched to a convertible. So it will only be used forward facing. The Impreza has the latch system.

thanks!

Linda, it is extremely rare that a baby does not need to ride RF in a convertible after their infant seat, even after the Graco SafeSeat Step1, which has the highest weight + height limits of any infant seat.... Please read the Carseat page within my website for important details on this vital issue! (scroll down past "Common Misuse Errors")

All vehicles since about 2001 are required to have LATCH, but did you try installing only with LATCH or did you also try seatbelt? (not at the same time)
Did you position the Marathon in the center, driver side or passenger side?

You're right, it will need to be rear facing for a while. I forgot about that. I placed the marathon behind the driver's seat and it was so tall, I could barely see out the back window. That's why I thought the Roundabout would be better because it wasn't as tall.
So I was thinking maybe I should try the passenger side. That may work, however length wise, it may not give my little one enough room to squeeze out of the car when she is older. What has been your experience with other Impreza wagons in this situation?

Can you explain exactly how you couldn't see out the windows? Which windows? Did you try repositioning your mirrors?

Positioning the carseat behind the driver is usually the easiest for allowing the driver to see out the windows since it's only blocking the driver's interior blind spot, which can usually only be seen when the driver's body is turned excessively within the vehicle seat, which is not necessary or receommended....

I'm not sure if the Radian65 installs properly in your vehicle, but it lacks the deep side wings of the Marathon & might be a solution to your problem -- however, it does have a higher rate of incompatability in more vehicles than does the Marathon

This may just be something that needs seeing IRL

When it's behind the driver's seat I can't see out the rear window. It's so tall it is even higher than the rear seat headrest. Because of this, I thought it would be unsafe to drive like that, especially when turning to look over my right shoulder. As it blocks my view considerably.
Based on this info, would you suggest I stick with the Marathon, purchase the Roundabout, Radian, or maybe even Recaro? I want the safest seat for my child that will also fit my compact wagon.
