| I am looking for a convertible carseat and with so many options, I'm lost. Here is some general information. 9-month-old daughter, 20 pounds, 27 inches 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid 2007 Toyota Prius Because we use the Escape as the family car, we are probably going to purchase a brand new seat for the Escape, and then get a used one that was used for my young sister, the Alpha Omega Elite for the Prius. I've read some reviews on different seats, and most reviews are good. The Britax of course gets rave reviews, but it's also one of the most expensive seats, and some of them don't seem to have the booster seat option, so while you are paying more for them, they don't last as long as some of the other options. I would like to find a very reliable, comfortable seat, that will last my daughter for a long time, preferably into booster stage. Can anyone help?! And can someone also tell me what is really so great about Britax? Thanks so much! |

| 3-in-1 combination seats are like "jacks of all trades, masters of none" The Alpha Omega has lower top usable harness slots: the actual top slots are for booster use only.... Too many kids outgrow the harness before they're ready to use a booster correctly & besides, there are more dedicated boosters available (that have deep head wings filled with energy absorbing foam). Too many kids also outgrow the AO as a booster before they're ready. The manufacturer advertises this seat really well, but this seat has an increased risk of misuse because of the top slot issue. Britax Marathon/Decathalon/Boulevard can tether RF, which enhances Ride Down to reduce crash forces upon the child. These seats also provide excellent side impact protection. These seats also keep kids harnessed until they're truly ready to use a dedicated booster. Marathon & Bouelvard also have Rip Stitch tethers which further enhance Ride Down, reducing crash forces upon the child's body. These seats also fit more vehicles correctly + easily. Other options similar to the Britax include the new Evenflo Triumph Advance, Sunshine Kids Radian65 or Recaro Signo/Como. Radian is slightly less expensive but is more difficult to use correctly. New Triumph Advance is incredibly easy to use, but lacks RF tetherability. Britax seats can be puzzled RF|FF|RF or FF|RF|FF to fit 3 across surprisingly easily in both of your vehicles (even with boosters since the base is higher to fit over armrests) while the AO is much more difficult to fit in tight squeezes. Please note that babies outgrow their infant carriers by weight OR height: there must be at least 1" of space between the top of baby's head & the inside edge of the plastic shell/frame. Also remember that carseats usually expire within 6 years from Date of Manufacture -- using past this date puts your child at risk of otherwise easily preventable fatal/serious injury.

| Thank you so much for all the information. I, of course, want my daughter to be as safe as possible, it's just so much money to spend when there are so many less expensive options available. I looked at the Recaro, and that's even more expensive than the Britax. So I guess I'm going to have to find a great deal on a Britax...I do like the patterns they offer. ![]() |

| Hopefully you can find one of the Marathons on sale? Often close to $100 & then worry about a fancier replacement cover option separately Otherwise, I'd feel very confident/safe using the Evenflo Triumph Advance!

| Okay, I found a Britax Marathon Convertible 2007 (Erin) for $209, with free shipping. That seems like a pretty good deal. What do you think? It's not my favorite style, but it seems to be a pretty good price. I'm more concerned with safety than style! ![]() Thank you, again, so much for your help!!
