| We have a 2004 Prius (so it has LATCH) and a 2000 Subaru Forester, which does not have LATCH. It's time for us to move from our rear-face only Graco to a convertible. We've read lots of good things about the Roundabout and the Marathon. We're wondering what kind of experiences people have had installing these in a Prius and in a non-LATCH Forester (in terms of ease of installation) and just as importantly, how are the fit issues, especially when rear-facing? We've already noticed that even with the Graco Snugride, we can't put the Forester front seats back very far (because of the Forester's damnable lack of rear-seat room) and are worried the Britax seats won't fit at all. Finally, do Britax seats (or convertibles in general) have detachable bases, or are we just going to have to move the seat from car-to-car (or just buy two seats)? Thanks! == Rich |

| The only seats with optional bases are 3-in-1s: "jacks of all trades, masters of none" ... which I personally avoid at all costs except as spare seats when necessary ![]() How old is your child? How tall are the adults? I had no installation problems with any convertibles in my mother's 2005 Prius & my 5'10" father Subaru buckle stalks are generally quite long & may need to be twisted to fit a carseat properly. Only up to three full 360 degree turns. Britax & Recaro seats sit up high enough that you may not need to do this & the Sunshine Kids Radian has a low enough profile with enclosed belt path that also accomodates such buckle stalks, but the Radian in general is much more difficult to install correctly (I don't remember specifics on it's compatability with Subaru in particular).Just remember to follow both vehicle + carseat manuals & have a local CPST check your install/use & keep asking questions here, too Also remember that the front seat occupants should have at least 10" between face & airbag deployment surface. If the carseat pushes the front seat too far foward, then the adult should simply sit in the back (this is about 40% safer for the adult anyway + kiddo is often less of a distraction for the driver then).
