Anyone, anyone?

I think the Britax Diplomat will fit front facing, but I can't find a suitable top tether mounting point.

A) Is it ok to mount without the top tether?
B) Any other thoughts on suitable seats?
C) Any thoughts on a suitable tehter mounting solution?

It doesn't look like it has top tether anchors or a retrofit kit. So the answer would be no..you can't top tether a forward facing seat.

Yes--it's ok to install without a top tether. In the US carseats have to pass the crash test with a lap belt only to be certified.

I believe, I've read that someone has gotten the bigger britax seats in a porshe little something or another.

Since there is no tether anchor available and there is no approved retrofit--you're only option is to not be able to top tether in that car.

Susan

Thanks Susan. Anyplace you can direct me as far as the install on the 911 cabriolet? They changed in 1995, so previous years are a little different.

Question for you...as long as the lap / shoulder belt install is getting the seat tight enough to pass the "no more than 1" side to side at the belts" test, is their any disadvantage to finding a secure tether spot? Seems like it can only provide benefit having the extra security, as long as it is extra security and not a primary anchor point?

Thanks in advance,

Jos

The major difference with older vehicles is that the seat may be too contoured to correctly fit the majority of carseats or it may have seatbelt buckles that are forward of the bight -- the vehicle seatback & bottom cushion meet -- I don't know for sure with this specific vehicle.... Just something to look out for (remember to call the toll free customer service numbers for assistance until you can make an appointment with your local CPST)

The risk of injury from projectiles would probably increase A non-standard tether point for a forward-facing seat could rip out during a crash. The hard metal hook on the tether itself & possibly hard/sharp pieces of the vehicle could then fly with crash force speed at your family

Just follow the instructions & make sure the carseat is locked in securely + correctly.

So I guess as long as it is secure, it is better to have the tether than not, but if one can't find a good spot, don't bother with the tether and make sure the seat meets the other requirements (1" side to side, doesn't tip over if the belts are too forward of the bight, etc)?
