Default problem with Chicco Keyfit infant seat

I have the Chicco Keyfit infant seat for my son who is about to outgrow it but we are having another child who will be using it thereafter. The problem we are having is that when we pull the straps tight, one side always ends up looser than the other. I have checked the back of the seat where the strap splits into the two sides and it isn't catching anywhere. When both sides are slack, they start out even, but when we pull it tight, the right strap always ends up being too loose and if I try to tighten it, it of course makes the other side way too tight. Has anyone else ever heard of this problem with this carseat or any other seat? Any suggestions on how to fix it? I am thinking of calling the manufacturer as well. Thanks for your help!

I just looked at my KF and can't get the same problem to occur. Each strap is independent of one another...they only join at the metal peice(spilter plate).

Have you taken the harness system completely out of the seat? If you've put the straps back in incorrectly I can see where the problem may occur. There looks to a be a specific way the hip straps must be threaded through the holes.

Susan

The strap may be twisting somewhere ... or I've noticed this situation when excess dust/dirt/dried juice, etc. has accumulated in the slots which the straps feed through Whatever you don't, don't wash the straps (this diminishes their integrity & safety performance during a crash)

We had the exact same problem when installing ours in our 2004 Land Rover Discovery. We discovered the Latch system was off-center for the seat...and where the owner's manual told us to install the car seat. We made sure we installed it in a different section of the back seat where the Latch system was centered with the seat. It was the car that was causing the problem, not the Key Fit itself.
