Production Dates: September 6, 2001 – October 31, 2005
Defect: These seats used six mechanical attachments to hold down the cloth cover. Some children could pull back the cloth cover in the approximate area adjacent to the occupant's thighs, and thereby access the foam liner. A child may break off and potentially choke on a piece of the foam liner.
Corrective Action: Evenflo will send written notification about the recall to each registered owner of the affected Triumph units and offer a free kit to cover the foam liner. The recall is expected to begin early in October 2007. Owners can contact Evenflo toll-free at 1-800-490-7591 between 8am and 5pm EST.

Production Dates: Units manufactured before April 8, 2006
Defect: When used as an infant carrier, the handle can unexpectedly release, causing the child restraint system to rotate forward. When this happens, an infant inside the carrier can fall to the ground and suffer serious injuries.
Corrective Action: Evenflo will notify registered owners and provide a free repair kit and repair instructions. The recall began on May 8, 2007. Owners can contact Evenflo's toll-free number at 1-800-233-5921 between 8am and 5pm EST or visit their website at Evenflo.

Production Dates: September 8, 2005, to September 22, 2005
Noncompliance: These seats do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 213, "Child Restraint Systems." In the event of a vehicle crash, the seat shell can crack, possibly resulting in injury to the child.
Corrective Action: All consumers who returned a registration card to Evenflo will automatically be sent a free replacement seat along with instruction on how to return the noncompliant seat. If you have not registered your child restraint, you can contact Evenflo ParentLink Monday through Friday 8am - 5pm EST toll-free at 1-800-223-5921.

Defect: Deformation or damage can occur to the base hooks on the convenience base during vehicle installation.

Models: Triumph™ convertible child restraints.
Production Dates: October 20, 2001 through January 31, 2002
Defect: The slide loop connectors (which act as a link in the internal harness system) may not be strong enough to fully secure the occupant in the event of a vehicle crash, possibly resulting in injury or death.
Corrective Action: Evenflo will provide a free repair kit and installation instructions that will reinforce the slide loop connectors. Owners may call Evenflo at 1-800-233-5921 to receive a free repair kit.

Models: Joyride® infant child restraints, model numbers beginning with 203, 205, 210, 435, and 493.
Production Dates: January 1988 to December 1998
Defect: When the infant restraint is used as a carrier (outside of a motor vehicle), the handle locks on each side of the restraint can unexpectedly release, causing the seat to flip forward. The Joyride infant restraint was sometimes sold together with a detachable convenience base as a Travel Tandem, and was sometimes sold as a travel system (together with a matching stroller.)
Corrective Action: Evenflo will notify and provide customers with a free repair kit and installation instructions. Customers can contact Evenflo Costumer Service at 1-800-233-5921 for a free repair kit.

Model(s): On My Way® Position Right™ infant car seats
Production Dates: January 26, 1999 - February 10, 2000
Affected Seats: The recall affects the "Convenience Base" of the seat only. Model numbers of the affected seats begin with 200 and 211; or 447 and 499 when sold with a stroller; and 639 on the bases that were sold separately.
Defect: Evenflo has discovered that after repeated use, two alignment posts in the base can become bent. If the posts become bent, consumers may have difficulty installing the carrier onto the base. Bent posts could also interfere with proper latching of the carrier to the base, preventing the child from being properly restrained.
Corrective Action: Evenflo will provide a free repair kit that prevents the posts in the base from bending. The kit includes instructions and metal clips that slip over the alignment posts. The clips are easy to install and it only takes a few minutes.
NOTE: For this recall campaign, consumers that have the affected seats should call Evenflo at 1-800-233-5921 to receive a free repair kit.

Models: Two-In-One car seats (Models beginning with 636 and 637)
Production Dates: January 7 - March 20, 1998
Noncompliance: The seat's backrest and base can separate when the occupant is restrained by the seat's 5-point harness. If the backrest and base were to separate in an automobile crash, the child in the seat could be injured. These seats do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 213, "Child Restraints Systems."
Corrective Action: Evenflo intends to notify consumers of the potential problem and to provide consumers with a new replacement seat. Consumers will be provided a pre-paid return shipping label and will be asked to return their original seat in the box the replacement seat came in. Evenflo will notify consumers to stop using the seat's internal 5-point harness system, and will advise that the seat can only be used as a belt positioning booster seat.

Defect: The red push button assembly on each side of the seat that is used to latch and adjust the carrying handle can unexpectedly release and cause the seat to flip forward.
Corrective Action: Evenflo will provide a free repair kit which includes stronger latch buttons and springs. To receive the repair kit, consumers should contact Evenflo at 1-800-233-5921 only for this recall campaign.

Production Dates: April 23, 1996 - May 20, 1997
Noncompliance: These seats do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 213, "Child Restraint Systems," which limits the head injury criteria. In recent tests on some of these booster seats, the head injury criteria scored more than allowed by this standard.
Corrective Action: Evenflo will reimburse owners either completely or partially depending on whether the seat can be used by the owner's child. Owners are advised to use the sidekick booster seat only as a belt positioner. When used as a belt positioner, the Sidekick must be used without its front shield and only in vehicles equipped with a three point lap/shoulder seat belt system.

Noncompliance: These seats do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 213, "Child Restraint Systems.", which limits head excursion. Slippage of the harness webbing can result in loosening of the harness straps.
Corrective Action: Evenflo will provide a harness adjuster retrofit kit and detailed instructions to the owners.

Production Dates: June 1, 1993 - December 16, 1996
Noncompliance: These seats do not comply with the thorax acceleration requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 213, "Child Restraint Systems."
Corrective Action: Evenflo will provide a modified recline arm which will alter the restraint's angle and installation instructions for consumers to repair these seats. Meanwhile, consumers are advised to only use these seats in its reclined position until they receive the free modified recline arm.

Defect: Due to a printing error, the fold-out instruction pamphlet providing information on toddler use was incorrectly labeled for infant use.
Corrective Action: Evenflo will send a new pamphlet to consumers.

Production Dates: May 1994 - May 1995
Noncompliance: These seats do not meet the sled test requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 213, "Child Restraint Systems," when tested without the detachable autobase.
Corrective Action: Evenflo will provide a set of plastic inserts to all owners of the "On My Way" infant restraints. Evenflo recommends that owners only use the restraint with the detachable autobase until the plastic inserts are received and installed.

Production Dates: February 8 - August 4, 1993
Defect: These seats are equipped with a latching aid, which is a gray or white sleeve located at the base of the webbing to help the consumer to insert the buckle tongue into the receiving end of the buckle. This latching aid can become torn or split or can slip out of position.
Corrective Action: Evenflo will provide an instruction sheet showing how to remove the plastic sleeve.

Defect: The black plastic push pins used to attach the pads to the seat structure can be removed by children presenting a possible choking hazard.

	Rear Facing Car Seats A rear-facing seat is one in which the infant faces the back of the car. Always install a rear-facing seat in the back seat of your car. This is the safest position for an infant. NEVER place a rear-facing seat in the front seat of a vehicle with passenger airbags.

	Convertible Car Seats Convertible seats are for infants and toddlers. The seat can be used as a rear-facing seats for younger children, and switched to a forward-facing seat on the child's first birthday if the child weighs at least 20 pounds. However, experts recommend keeping the child in a rear-facing position until he or she outgrows the weight or height allowed by the safety seat.

	Infant Car Seats Infant-only rear-facing seats are for babies up to about 22 to 30 pounds, depending on the specific car seat. You will need a new seat when your child gets bigger. Infant-only seats have handles that allow you to move the seat from the car to the house or other locations. Some have a base that you can leave installed in the car, so you can just click the car seat into place each time you use it.

	Booster Seat A booster seat raises your child up so that the car's lap and shoulder belts fit correctly. The lap belt should fall across the upper thighs. The shoulder belt should go across the middle of the shoulder and chest. A booster seat is used for older children up to about 80 pounds. Some states have passed laws requiring booster seats for children up to age 8 or 80 pounds. Check your state's law.

	LATCH LATCH stands for Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren. It is a system mandated by the Federal government in an effort to standardize and simplify the installation of child restraints without using the vehicle's seat belt system. New vehicles and child safety seats manufactured on and after September 1, 2002 will be equipped with the LATCH system. Cars, minivans, and light trucks will be required to have anchor points between the vehicle's seat cushion and the seat back in at least two rear seating positions, and a top tether anchor (with the exception of convertibles). Child safety seats will have a lower set of attachments that fasten to the vehicle anchors. Most forward-facing child safety seats will also have a top strap (tether) that attaches to the top anchor in the vehicle.
