Smile Radian 80 or Safeguard Child Car Seat

I bought a Radian 80 but now I am having second thoughts about it. It is
still in its box. On one website a woman cited a 5 MPH accident that resulted in a Radian having a two-inch break. I don't want to keep the Radian because I was convinced by its website. I just learned about the Safeguard Child Car Seat. It sounds like a great seat, but again I don't know anyone who has the
Safeguard. If anyone can shed some light on either or both of these seats, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, if someone has a comparison between the
two, that would be very helpful. I tried to pull up some accident experience
with these seats but could not access anything.

Do you have the website with the reported Radian break? It could be that the Radian did its job and that's why it broke...better a broken seat than a broken kiddo.

Yes, I have seen the seat you are talking about. I really feel that it was just a once a deal sort of thing as I have not heard of it again. Sunshine Kids Radians are sold in Canada as well and in the 2 years of me being an advocate/tech, I haven't heard of it again. I don't know if there was anything "after market" on the seatbelt or if there were other factors pertaining to this incident.

As for the Safeguard seat, VERY nice seat..AMAZINGLY easy install. You literally press a button and it tightens the LATCH install! The cons is that it only holds up to 65lbs.

There is a BRitax regent that is the tallest, highest harness weight seat on the market. It will harness to 80lbs and around 53" tall. I, personally, own 2 of these seats and LOVE them. My kids love them as well. You will have to have a tether anchor for this seat when your child hits 50lbs+.

There is also the new Graco Nautilus that is at WalMart. It will harness to 65lbs, then turns into a booster up to 100lbs. They run about $150. The harness slot height is about 18-18.5" tall.

How old is the child and how tall/weight?

Default Radian 80 versus Safeguard

Thanks for your response. GB is 39 months old. At his three-year check-up, he weighed 28 pounds and was in the 50th percentile for height; basically, he's a string bean. His last seat was a Roundabout, which he outgrew height wise.

Technically, you could still have him RFing, IF his head is 1" below the top of the shell of the carseat (which is the safest way to travel). If you feel that he needs to be in a FFing seat, I still stand by my recommendations in the last post. The absolute best thing to do is try him in the seats and make sure it fits your vehicle. If everything fits and you know you will be using it correctly each time, then that is the seat for you!
