| Hi I havea son who will turn 4 in April. He is about 33lbs and 38inches. We need to go to a toddler seat and would like to keep the 5 pt harness. We currently have his seat in the middle but want to have another baby. So we would need to put it on the sides. My car does not have side impact protection. We have a 96 Camry. Any suggestions? |

| What seat is he in currently? His seat likely holds to 40lbs and he won't outgrow it until he hits that weight limit, his shoulders are over the top harness slots or the tips of his ears are even with the shell of the seat. Britax Regent is the "king of carseats" as it is the tallest, highest weight harnessing seat on the market. You will have to have a tether anchor in your vehicle for this seat. Due to the age of your vehicle (the LATCH system wasn't mandatory in vehicles until 9/1/2002) you can have it retrofitted in your vehicle using part number 73709-12010. You can call your local Toyota dealership and tell them you want it retrofitted, it will run about $12 for the part. The Graco Nautilus will harness to 65lbs, then booster to 100lbs. it is at walmart for about $150.

| Thank you for the suggestions, however I think the Regent will be way to big and the Nautilaus doesn't appear to have the EPS foam. I was thinking about the Radian 80 but it looks as if the max. height is 53". Don't kids have to be in a seat until they are 56"? So does that mean that we would have to get another seat after all? I thought the Rdian said it would be the only seat needed? |

| From what I have been told, the EPS foam actually has little effect. Kids need to be in a carseat or a booster until around 4'9", 8 years or 80lbs. Basically until they can pass the 5 step booster test Boosters Are For Big Kids With the Radian, they JUST passed it to that 53" height, BUT this means that your child's shoulders can go over the top harness slots. As a tech, I just don't see how they were able to pass this. When a child is FF and their shoulders are over the slots, if involved with a crash like this, it causes spinal compression. So, I really don't know how they have done it. do you have any other children that ride with you? The Regent is a very large seat, but I have seen it in 2 door Cavalier's, small Kia Optima's, etc. If you are wanting to get a seat that will basically fit your child until you are done with carseats/boosters, the best route would be the Graco Nautilus. (there are rumors that Britax is releasing a seat POSSIBLY in April called the Frontier. It is supposed to harness to 65lbs, then booster to 100+lbs)
