Default Regent or Safeguard or ? in 06 Acccord for 5 year old: please help!

Hi- I have a tall, think, 5-year old I would like to keep harnessed as long as possible now that I have learned about the problems with boosters. Since shoulder height has caused her to outgrow other seats, I am mainly looking at Britax regent or Safeguard as those seem to offer most room for growth. Any advice about which would work better (preferably in center!) in my 06 Accord? I see conflicting info online

The BRitax seat will hold to 80lbs in the harness. It is the tallest, highest weight harnessing seat on the market. I own 2 of them and LOVE them. I have been able to play with the Safeguard seat, but I believe it only harnesses to 65lbs. The LATCH is really cool. IT automatically tightens and loosens...that's why there is such a high sticker price on it!!! If your child is the only one in the vehicle and there is a tether anchor in that location (I dont' have my latch manual in front of me), then it should work.

Default question for mn madhouse

Hi- If putting the regent outboard allows a tether, is that safer than center w/o tether?

thanks!

To be honest, I would MUCH rather see the Regent tethered than NOT.

Default travel air/car/ public transport recommendation 5 year old

thanks so much- that helped me decide on a Regent outboard w/tether (btw, do you have opinion on latch vs. seatbelt atttachment? know i will have to switch at 50 lbs, just wondering whether seatbelt is then safer even at lower weight).

We are traveling overseas soon -- so confused as to what to do on plane, in foreign (norway) cars and public transport. Could buy a Radian 65 or 80 but looks like we'll be lucky to get a week's use out of it. (DD is already, though barely, at the 2nd to top of the brand-new Regent). I don't want to check anything for fear of it getting destroyed; should i just grit my teeth and get a booster for the trip, and nothing for the airplane?

All recommendations appreciated.

Well, you have to take into consideration the weight limit for the LATCH system. I don't have my LATCH manual inside with me, but I *believe* Honda's weight limit is 40lbs. So, if she is over that, you will have to use the Short belt path with the recline bar and the tether. As for overseas use, You could do a couple of things. If you want her harnessed on the place, you can check out the Graco Nautilus; harness to 65lbs, then booster to 100lbs--then you can use it as a backup when you get home. It will run you about $150. You could try her out in an Evenflo Triumph Advance (it harnesses to 50lbs), but you likely won't get any use out of it.

Another inexpensive route is to get a backless booster, put it in a piece of check on luggage and use that when you are overseas.

If it were me, I'd get the Nautilus only b/c it harnesses to 65lbs and I know I can use it in another vehicle later on. It is a larger, fairly heavy seat.
